Rome

Cliffs Notes Version:
We only had essentially one night in Rome so we hit up the major touristy sights and walked around the city ... oh, and we bought a tripod and it was glorious.

Day 1

We got into Rome from Dubrovnik mid-afternoon so we tossed our bags down at the hostel, and went on our way. Essentially, we had enough time to walk around to the major sites and grab dinner before catching an early flight out the next morning. We started walking from our hostel to the general direction of the Colosseum, where we walked by the Ancient Ruins along the way. Right before we got to the Colosseum, we ended up buying a mini-tripod from a street vendor because, well, why not. Mainly we did it so we could be prenentious and so whenever anyone said, "Nice tripod" we could say, "Welllll, we saw some people using them in Rome so when someone offerred to sell us one we said to each other, 'Well, when in Rome.'" At this point we would start giggling at each other, followed by a quick shopping trip to Banana Republic and a short game of tennis, all the while taking pictures of ourself using fore mentioned tripod. Well, that's why I bought the thing anyway, I don't know why Colleen wanted to get it. We actually ended up using the tripod quite a bit over the course of the trip though, especially for self-timer shots, so it was a good purchase. With tripod and camera in hand we went on to see the Colosseum, Trevi Fountain (yes, we made a wish), and the Pantheon.

In front of Colosseum, thanks tripod

Tripod comes through again in front of the Pantheon
After our sight seeing tour we grabbed some dinner that had like ten courses and stuffed ourselves. We had an early morning train the next day and we had no alarm clock (staying in a hostel) and our phones weren't even getting the time from the satellites (thanks Verizon) so essentially planned to sleep in shifts. Sleeping in shifts is especially fun when you just ate a very large Italian meal and you just want to pass out. We were able to make it through the night, however, and got on our early morning train to Venice.
